The Championship Rings From Super Bowl XIII

March 17, 2015

Continuing my blogs on the two championship rings awarded from every Super Bowl, here’s the next gorgeous pair; an inside look at the two championship rings from Super Bowl XIII:

Super Bowl XIII Rings

The ring on the left is the Pittsburgh Steelers third winning Super Bowl Ring from their 1978 season. Unlike the Raiders, who two seasons earlier purposely made a strong effort to keep their championship ring theme the same, the Steelers third championship ring was quite different in design from their first two rings. If you line up all 6 Steeler rings, you would be hard to find a team that has all of their championship rings so strikingly different from one another.

The Steelers 1978 Super Bowl ring was designed and manufactured by Jostens in 10K solid yellow gold, the ring contains three large diamonds and smaller diamonds that give the ring some beautiful bling. The ring weighs 42 grams.

Here’s an amazing fact about the ring – I always thought the top was kind of a random, modern-art type design. Obviously, the three large diamonds represent the three Super Bowl championships the team achieved at this point in time. However, “Hat Boy”, a poster on championship ring, recently pointed out “The “stars” on the Steelers ring are asteroids, which mimic their logo.”

I can’t believe I never realized that! Apparently, others missed that too as quite a few mentioned on the board that they did not realize it either. Another contributor mentioned that the official shape of the star is called a hypocycloid and when it’s shaped with four cusps, it’s called an asteroid.

Like so many other winning Super Bowl rings, the Steelers Super Bowl XIII ring is extremely rare and in high demand by Steeler fans and highly coveted by championship ring collectors. Very few of these rings have made it to the collecting community and the few that have, sold for a lot of money. This is one of the very few Super Bowl rings I do not own, however, I’m in advanced negotiations with someone to buy their ring and we are proceeding along with this sale.

In a tradition that continues to this day, the team that loses the Super Bowl is still recognized as a champion of their respective conference. The Cowboys super bowl ring was designed as a tribute to the Texas official state flower – the Bluebonnet. Because many collectors believe this is one of the ugliest conference championship rings, they tend to go for less money than other AFC and NFC championship rings. The Cowboys 1978 NFC ring was made by Jostens, in 10K yellow gold and weighs 35-36 grams.

Please remember – I buy super bowl rings and I buy championship rings too, so do let me know if you have a championship ring you want to sell.

New Photoshopped Super Bowl XLIX Ring Debuts on Twitter

March 13, 2015

The championship ring is stunning, obviously modified from a front office 2004 Super Bowl ring.

**photo description here**

Could we be looking at the new 2014, Super Bowl XLIX ring that will be awarded to the New England players, coaches and employees in a few months?

It’s highly doubtful this or a similar version will be presented to team players and coaches. The reason is that this championship ring would be substantially smaller in size than New England’s last winning ring – the 2004 Super Bowl ring.

The 2004 Super Bowl ring was gigantic, weighing in a little over 100 grams, in 14K white solid gold. Some front office employees received a non gold version (same color as the player’s rings) with imitation diamonds that looked very similar to the ring shown above. Obviously, that championship ring had three large imitation diamonds and Lombardi trophies, not four as shown above.

Perhaps, if the Patriots decide to offer a smaller front office ring again this year, the super bowl ring shown above could be   very similar to what is ultimately presented to front office employees.

Championship ring collectors are looking forward to the new rings, if they are anything like what Rob Kraft has presented in the past, the new championship rings will be spectacular.

I buy championship rings. If you wish to sell any championship rings, please contact me.
