Beer and Championship Rings – The Best Combination Ever!

December 4, 2014

I never thought I would write a blog about beer and Super Bowl rings, but look what showed up on twitter this week:

Pittsburgh Steeler Super Bowl Rings

A Pittsburgh brewing company, called Iron City Beer, has a long history with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the photo above, you can see four super bowl rings and the Steelers famous quest for a fifth ring (also known as “one for the thumb”).

We know these cans were made during or before the 2005 season, since the Steelers won their fifth super bowl that season.

Besides being really cool, it turns out that these cans are somewhat collectable.

I don’t think the beer cans specifically mention the Steelers by name, or the super bowl, and while I wish the ring illustrations were more realistic, these issues are probably the result of avoiding huge licensing costs from the NFL, Steelers, Balfour and Jostens (the two championship ring companies that produced the Steelers first four Steeler super bowl rings). I love the fact that the cans are in the Steelers colors.

For more information about Steeler rings, please use the search tools located on the right side, or visit the super bowl ring gallery from the start page of this website.

I buy championship rings so if you are thinking of selling a super bowl ring, or championship ring, please get in touch with me.

The Giants Super Bowl XXI Ring – More Examples of Championship Ring Modifications

November 20, 2014

Here’s a photo of a before-and-after Championship ring modification. The ring on the right is what the Super Bowl ring looked like when presented back in 1987.

New York Giants Super Bowl XXI Ring

The changes are striking – the blue onyx stone has been replaced with more than two dozen diamonds to create a lot more bling.

Astute posters on a sports forum correctly pointed out that the large center ring mount looks like it was replaced too and there is a new diamond pattern found inside the Lombardi trophy.

The ring on the left, (the picture found on the internet) belongs to Giants center, Bart Oates. Having met running back and New York Giant Super Bowl XXV MVP, Ottis Anderson, I can tell you that he did the same modification to his Super Bowl XXI ring too. I have been lucky enough to meet quite a few Giants from this super bowl and can report that most did not make this modification to their Super Bowl rings.

I’m not sure how the readers of this championship ring blog feel, but I like the simple beauty of the original ring better.

Please remember I love to buy Super Bowl rings and I also buy most championship rings. If you are looking to sell a Super Bowl ring or championship ring, please contact me.

I Want to Buy This Super Bowl Championship Ring!

November 7, 2014

The San Francisco Forty Niners Super Bowl XXIII championship ring from 1988 has eluded me for a long time, but I have the feeling I’m closing in on one.

I want to buy this super bowl ring, who will sell me this super bowl ring

I rarely use this blog as an advertisement, so pardon this interruption instead of a normal blog post.

If anyone reading my championship ring blog wants to sell a Super Bowl XXIII ring please contact me.

I’ll buy this Super Bowl ring, as long as it’s a real ring and not a salesman sample. In fact, I will buy any championship ring, just contact me.

Why am I feeling optimistic about buying this championship ring soon?

I know of a collector who’s selling his collection of championship rings. He supposedly has this ring so hopefully in 2015 we can strike up a deal. Most of his championship rings are not the caliber collectors covert. He has a ton of bowling rings, tiny college rings and that sort of thing, however, he does have a few big-time championship rings for sale.

I also know a non-collector, and we’ve talked over the years of me buying his Super Bowl XXIII championship ring (from a well known player).

Sooner or later I will buy this championship ring. Until then, the fun is in the chase!
