Ever wanted to know what it felt like to own an NBA championship ring?

October 15, 2014

While it may not be the real thing, it sure looks real and can be easily acquired on eBay.

2014 San Antonio Spurs Championship ring

All San Antonio Spurs fans (or for that matter anyone) attending the opening night game on October 28, will receive the free commemorative Spurs championship ring shown above.

The commemorative NBA Championship rings feature the iconic Spur logo on the front with imitation diamonds (cz’s). The free Spurs championship ring has the team’s 2013-14 regular and post-season records above an NBA logo on the left panel.

The right panel contains the Larry O’Brien championship trophy with five studs, symbolizing each of the Spurs’ five championships.

The giveaway is limited to one commemorative championship ring per ticketed guest and unfortunately is one-size-fits-all.

That night, before the game gets underway against the Dallas Mavericks, the Spurs will also unveil their fifth championship banner and players and coaches will receive their championship rings.

The ring giveaway is being sponsored by H-E-B and BBVA Compass.

Not attending the game, but want a championship ring anyway? As is always the case after a championship ring promotional giveaway, dozens will be soon appearing on eBay!

Jerry West’s Amazing Championship Ring Display

August 25, 2014

Born in West Virginia, a local WV Steakhouse called, Prime 44 West, houses Jerry’s Championship Rings and a Larry O’brien NBA Championship trophy.

Jerry West Championship Rings

How did Jerry acquire so many championship rings?

Jerry West was a professional basketball player who played his entire professional 14 year career for the L.A. Lakers.

Jerry was also the co-captain of the 1960 U.S. Olympic gold medal team in Rome. The entire team was inducted as a unit into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

West had a very impressive NBA career. Playing the guard position, he was voted 12 times into the All-NBA First and Second Teams, and was elected into the NBA All-Star Team 14 times. West was the All-Star MVP in 1972, the same year that he won the only title of his career.

West holds the NBA record for the highest points per game average in a playoff series with mind-blowing 46.3. He was also a member of the first five NBA All-Defensive Teams (one second, which was then followed by four firsts), which were introduced when he was 32 years old.

Having played in nine NBA Finals, he is also the only player in NBA history to be named Finals MVP despite being on the losing team (1969). West was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980 and voted as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history in 1996.

After his playing career, West was head coach of the Lakers for three years, leading Los Angeles into the playoffs each year and earning a Western Conference Finals berth once.

West was named general manager of the Lakers prior to the 1982–83 NBA season. Under his reign, the Lakers won a whopping six championship rings.

In 2002, West became general manager of the Memphis Grizzlies and helped the franchise win their first-ever playoff berth. For his contributions, West won the NBA Executive of the Year Award twice, once with the Lakers (1995) and then once with the Grizzlies (2004).

Billboard in Akron tells LeBron James he’s welcome for Miami rings

August 7, 2014

Now these are the biggest rings I’ve ever seen:

Miami Heat Championship Rings

After LeBron James left the Miami Heat and returned to the Cleveland Cavaliers, there’s been a festering outrage by a few media members and many heat fans. They’re upset about LeBron, not officially thanking the Miami fans for his championship run in South Beach.

While LeBron did re-post an Instagram photo from the Heat thanking him for the memories and James saying, “Thank you as well,” there has been little from James lately on this matter and we haven’t seen any full page ads taken out in newspapers thanking the fans directly.

Because of this, there’s a little war being waged in Akron, Ohio on billboards and possibly more. Radio host Dan Le Batard is fueling this “war” with the billboard pictured above in which “Miami” is telling LeBron he’s welcome for his two championship rings. According to Greg Cote of the Miami Herald, Le Batard is just trying to have a little fun in some “anarchy” with Cavs fans:

“It’s just fun anarchy. All meant in fun — which, of course, will turn into Cleveland people getting filled with rage, poison and irrational hostility and want to use those billboards as a guillotine. Sports are so great, the more irrational the better. This is a publicity stunt disguised as a movement. Please don’t tell anyone there is no actual movement.”

Apparently this isn’t the last of the jabbing. LeBron James will be having a homecoming ceremony in Akron on Friday, and there are supposedly more parts to the billboard war that is being kept secret so that LeBron and his friends can’t attempt to put a stop to it.

This is what happens during the off season in the NBA.

Phil Jackson Gladly Shows a Twitter Follower All 13 of His NBA Championship Rings When Asked To See Two

July 23, 2014

The Legendary coach shows a Twitter follower all of his bling, earned as a Coach and player by posting this photo:

Phil Jackson and his 13 NBA championship rings

Six of the rings were earned coaching the Chicago Bulls and five are from his coaching days with the Los Angeles Lakers. The two on the bottom are from his playing days as a defensive-minded reserve forward on the 1970 and 1973 New York Knicks teams.

Notice how organized Phil is with his rings: each era of his career is neatly arranged and the rings are sorted in chronological order.

For many NBA types, rings won as a player would represent the pinnacle of achievement in the sport; however in Jackson’s case, though, they serve as sort of a precursor and accent mark to the story of his later coaching accomplishments. As such — and also because they aren’t quite as flashy as what came later — it seems like we don’t often see Jackson sporting the rings he won during his playing career.

One Twitter follower named Sean, wondered what they looked like:

Phil Jackson and his 13 NBA championship rings

Jackson, who has immersed himself wholeheartedly into social media, was happy to oblige, and did so in a funny sort-of-way:

“here’s the best I can do…the 2 Knick rings are in the front of the picture,” Jackson tweeted.

Looks like Sean and the rest of Phil’s followers received a wonderful photo – and as usual with Phil – more than was asked for.

Even Michael Jordan’s golf bag has six rings

May 23, 2014

This photo found on the internet shows Michael Jordan, a self admitted golf-addict, showing off all six of his Chicago Bulls championship rings.

Michael Jordan championship ring golf bag

If you are ever lucky enough to play a round of golf with Michael Jordan, and you’re a championship ring enthusiast like myself, you may want to check out Michael’s golf bag.

The Chicago Bulls NBA Championship rings are from: 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998.

Besides the six championship rings, the bag has his Nike Basketball shoe logo embroidered above the Bulls rings. The Air Jordan III Nike sneaker, released in 1988, was the first Air Jordan shoe to feature the Jumpman logo.

As you can see in the photograph, Jordan’s custom golf bag also pays homage to Mike’s Nike Basketball sneakers.

Should Mike’s golf bag ever get lost or damaged, no need to worry. Other photos on the internet reveal that he has several other custom Nike golf bags that show-off many of his classic Michael Jordan Basketball sneakers.
