Sister Jean, Loyola’s Biggest Fan, Awarded Final Four Championship Ring

November 29, 2018

What a great “Feel-Good” story, and a class-act by the University:

Sister Jean, Loyola Championship ring

Earlier this week, the Loyola Ramblers college basketball team presented a Final Four Championship Ring to Sister Jean, who’s 99 years young.

Sister jean became the most well-known person associated with the team as she would lead them in prayer before games.

On Tuesday evening, the 99-year-old chaplain, who became a national sensation during last year’s NCAA Basketball tournament, received the large blinged championship ring to help celebrate the team’s improbable Final Four run.

Jean Dolores Schmidt proudly showed off the championship ring as she sat courtside in a wheelchair and a Loyola jacket, with fans chanting, “You deserve it.”

Like all college championship rings, the keepsake is made of non gold and man-made imitation diamonds.

In case you’d forgotten how big a deal she was a season ago, she gave numerous interviews and a bobblehead created in her honor, set sales records. At the Final Four, her news conference drew a standing-room-only crowd, as The Washington Post’s Chuck Culpepper wrote. “Looking in the media room, walking by, you would have thought she was one of us,” Loyola Chicago guard-forward Donte Ingram said. “I walked by, I thought it looked like Tom Brady at the Super Bowl,” Coach Porter Moser said.

She took the sudden fame in stride, calling the Final Four run “the most fun I’ve had in my life.” At a time when there’s so much to lament about college sports, she was a breath of fresh air.

Here’s the Video:

Four Impressive Championship Rings

November 28, 2018

This recent photo on Twitter caught my eye and sent me on an internet adventure:

Player super bowl rings and afc/nfc championship rings

Was someone, (player, coach, or executive) actually awarded all these magnificent championship rings (three winning Super Bowl rings, and one AFC championship ring)?

The four championship rings are player-size, and not front-office versions that could be smaller and possibly contain less diamonds.

Remarkably they are from a 12 year span, so it could be a player who enjoyed a long career with the Patriots (but started with the Ravens).

From left to right here are the championship rings shown in the above photo:

  • 2011 Patriots AFC championship ring (the Pats lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl)
  • 2000 Ravens Super Bowl XXXV Ring
  • 2004 Patriots Super Bowl XXXIX Ring
  • 2003 Patriots Super Bowl XXXVIII Ring (on the opposite hand)

Incidentally, all of these championship rings were designed and crafted by Jostens.

After a little research, it turns out that the championship rings are a compilation from two players. No one has been lucky enough to earn these four Super Bowl rings individually.

The Ravens Super Bowl ring belongs to Chris Redman, a player for the team, who spent some time with the Patriots in later seasons.

The other championship rings belong to player Deion Branch.

  • Buccaneers Super Bowl Ring Offered on eBay

    November 26, 2018

This reasonably-priced player Championship Ring can be yours today, if you make the right offer:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl ring

I am not affiliated with this championship ring, or the seller, I’m just here to blog about the world of championship rings.

This stunning player Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl ring caught my eye. While the asking price is $29,999.99, the seller is accepting best offers.

Some consider this Super Bowl ring one of the nicest designs that have ever graced a Super Bowl ring. The shafts are unusual, but the top is stunning. While this championship ring is small compared to today’s huge Super Bowl rings, it’s an “average size” Super Bowl ring when compared to similar team’s rings from the early 2000 era.

I’ve come to realize, in my humble opinion, that Jostens makes nicer Super Bowl rings, but Tiffany was awarded the Buccaneers project and did a nice design. This Super Bowl ring comes with the original presentation box – which when compared to what Jostens offers to hold their championship rings, comes up a little short.

None the less, acquiring a player Super Bowl ring that’s less than twenty years old, is getting more difficult for under $30,000.00 and here’s one that’s available.

It’s the one and only Super Bowl ring that Tampa Bay has ever one, and would make a great acquisition for someone’s championship ring collection or Tampa Bay Bucs collection.

Andre Reed Championship Rings at Auction

    November 21, 2018

Three of Reed’s Buffalo Bills AFC championship rings hit the auction block next month, including this one:

Andre Reed Bills AFC championship rings goldin auction

No doubt Andre Reed was a special player. The seven time Pro Bowl player and Pro Football Hall of Fame member was an all-time great wide receiver.

Reed earned four AFC championship rings with the Bills as a player, and now you can own any or all three of the first three rings he received. Check out the Goldin Auctions website for details on these championship rings and other great sports memorabilia.

Interestingly, Reed’s final ring (and nicest), the Bills AFC championship ring with four football shaped diamonds from 1993, that celebrated the team’s fourth super bowl appearance in a row (all losses) is not in the auction.

Perhaps Reed is holding on to that championship ring as a reminder that he was on the only team in NFL history to reach four consecutive Super Bowls. Even the mighty Patriots have not achieved that.

Want to Bay a Yankee “Employee Ring”?

    November 19, 2018

That’s was how the conversation started; and I said “Sure!” – until I saw the ring below:

fake 2000 Yankees world series replica ring

Recently I was contacted by someone who said they had purchased a Yankees 2000 World Series ring from a former employee of the team.

Knowing the Yankees 2000 World Series ring is unusually rare, I was very interested.

I asked if the championship ring came with the original box. I was told “no”.

Next, I asked if the World Series ring came with ironclad paperwork proving the original owner sold the championship ring (as I have stated dozens of times over the years on this blog, this is vital in purchasing championship rings). I was told, “no”, but the seller insisted he could get the original owner to issue paperwork.

Based on getting solid paperwork, I asked the seller to send me some photos of the championship ring with inside engravings as well.

Needless to say when the photos arrived (two of them displayed above), it was instantly clear that his was one of the lowest quality fake championship rings I have ever seen.

No inside photos were sent, because I’m positive there were no engravings. And in what universe would a Yankee employee receive a “Jeter” ring? Hey perhaps in a crazy coincidence, the Yankee employee shared the same last name with Derek Jeter!
