Fool’s Gold – This Packer Super Bowl II Ring is Priced All Wrong

March 29, 2018

Authentic salesman sample championship rings now sell for less than half the starting price of this auction:

Packer Super Bowl salesman samples

And this eBay Super Bowl ring offering gets even sillier…. If someone was foolish enough to place the opening bid of $7,000.00, they would still be under the reserve needed to buy the championship ring!

Although the auction is not too clear, the wording indicates this Packers Super Bowl ring might actually come with real diamonds. Most salesman sample rings do not. If you factor in three small diamonds of championship ring quality (which is not as expensive or nice as engagement quality diamonds), the ring might be worth $4,000.00. However finding a buyer willing to pay $4,000.00 might not be easy.

Like the jeweler trying to sell the Carolina Panthers NFC ring for over a year on eBay, this seller will learn that there are no fools out there who will fork over more than $7,000.00 for a salesman sample that’s not so rare.

Please remember as always, I buy championship rings. If you would like to sell your championship ring in complete privacy, please contact me.

Too Bad This Super Bowl Ring Isn’t Real

March 28, 2018

I guess the reports about the NFL finally doing something about counterfeit championship rings is as bogus as the Super Bowl ring shown below:

Eagles 2017 Super Bowl ring

This Eagles “Super Bowl Ring” is for sale and the seller is boasting about it – as if it was legal and real. They even put their website information in the tweet.

I’m not affiliated with this Super Bowl ring or the company that makes these bogus championship rings, but those that are interested could troll Twitter and find the seller’s website.

If you must buy a replica championship ring of questionable quality, then you should at least wait until the actual authentic championship ring is released. That way, your imitation Super Bowl ring will be somewhat similar to the read deal.

I am not advocating buying these knockoffs, and the Eagles Super Bowl ring shown above is almost guaranteed not to look close to the eventual design of the authentic one.

I will say that whoever designed the Eagles championship ring shown above, did a heck of a job. It’s a darn-good design and nice looking championship ring.

Please remember as always I buy authentic championship rings. If you would like to sell your championship ring in complete privacy, please contact me.

Lelands Auction Wraps Up Over the Weekend

March 26, 2018

The championship ring selection was slim pickings, but there were a couple that caught my eye, including this beauty:

Giants 2011 Super Bowl ring for sale

Every time a huge sports memorabilia auction catalog arrives, I rush to open it and see what championship rings are included in the event.

Most times, there’s some great championship rings, but in this Lelands catalog, there was not too much to get excited about this time.

Two Super Bowl rings that caught my eye (but unfortunately for me, I already own) were two Giant Super Bowl rings. One was a 1990 Super Bowl XXV ring awarded to retired football great Rosey Brown, and the other was a 2011 Giants player ring (shown above).

The Brown ring had an opening bid of $20,000 which was a little high and because of that, it did not receive a single bid and did not sell. Had someone done an initial bid, they could have won the ring for $24,000 (because of the 20% buyer’s fee). $24,000 for a non-player ring (although belonging to a great Giant) is a little high but not too much. I’m surprised this championship ring did not garner a single bid. One thing I liked about this ring was that it came with the original championship ring box.

The other Giant ring, from 2011 was a Super Bowl ring I had some interest in. I was contemplating putting a bid on the Super Bowl ring towards the end of the auction but the ring did not have the wood presentation box. Leland’s description was a little unclear – stating the championship ring came with the proper Tiffany box. Upon speaking with a Lelands employee, I learned that it came with the green cardboard Tiffany box, but not the wood presentation box.

Once a championship ring no longer comes with it’s proper presentation box, replacing it could be almost impossible. That drives hard-core championship ring collectors nuts and can devalue a championship ring in the market place.

Once that Super Bowl ring climbed past $34,000 I was out of the running. I already have a player ring with the wood presentation box, so at the price it closed for – $40,364 with the buyer’s premium, it was no longer close to being a good deal for me.

Only two other championship rings in this auction sold for more than $10,000 – a 2011 St. Louis Cardinals ring for $11,692.00 and a Red Sox 2004 Red Sox World Series ring (size 6.5, which is a huge issue) for $14,494.00

Please remember as always, I buy championship rings. If you would like to sell your championship ring in complete privacy, please contact me.

Is the NFL Finally Doing Something About Counterfeit Championship Rings?

March 23, 2018

Brad, a long-time and loyal reader of this Championship Ring Blog, recently emailed me with some interesting news:

NFL, and counterfeit championship rings

Here is Brad’s email:

“Hey Mike, i just wanted to send you a quick message about something i have seen happening recently.

I know that you have long asked the question why the NFL doesn’t step in to combat the shoddy Chinese replica rings. It looks like the NFL may actually be doing that, on the website “aliexpress.com” which is a popular Chinese market previously the site used to be flooded with cheap knock off super bowl rings, but if you currently try and search for “super bowl ring” on the site it only pops up with fan rings and shirts. the rings do still exist on the site if you search for “championship ring” sadly. I have noticed a similar thing happen on eBay, if you try and search for “Super bowl ring replica” the only things which pop up are 1 person trying to sell an old Washington redskins ring and 1 person selling an oversized paperweight.

It would appear that the NFL is trying to crack down on these Chinese replicas now.

Just thought i would let you know.

Thanks”

Brad, thanks for letting me and the readers know, and thank you for reading the blog and for your contributions.

If this crap is off eBay, that’s a strong indicator that the NFL means business. Although I love football, like many fans, the NFL policies and dare I say, greed of some of those involved in the NFL drive me crazy. The image above with the dollar signs is not meant to take a swipe at the NFL greed, but more to illustrate that with championship rings, there is money being lost and misdirected by those making replica and counterfeit championship rings.

Please remember as always, I buy real championship rings. If you would like to sell your championship ring in complete privacy, please contact me.
