1996 Patriots Ring Sells For Amazing Low Price on eBay

May 23, 2016

This Pre-Brady Championship Ring continues the trend of lower auction prices for championship rings.   What’s going on here?

Patriots Championship Ring

The Patriots championship ring shown above, sold Sunday on ebay for only $3,550.00.

While not belonging to a former player, the original owner was a scout for the team who passed away from cancer.

The championship ring, is the same size, style and contains real diamonds, just like the players received.

The auction format produced 11 bids.

With the long success the Patriots have had over the last 15 seasons, their fan base is very strong and Patriot Championship rings and Patriot Super Bowl rings perform very well at auction.

While this ring was awarded when Parcells was head coach and not Belichick, and the qb was Drew Bledsoe and not Tom Brady, this championship ring went for a shockingly low price.

One issue I had with the championship ring, and perhaps others did too, was there was no mention of solid paperwork with this ring, proving that the original owner sold the ring.

Furthermore, the company that ran the auction, mentioned that a special scholarship fund was set up in the name Mike Pollom, the scout who passed. Here’s the auction’s blurb:

“Pollom is immortalized by the Mike Pollom Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships to deserving students of Coachella Valley High School in Coachella, California.”

The reason I bring this us is that this championship ring does not fit the situation usually seen when an original championship ring recipient sells their ring. Perhaps the Pollom family is unaware that this championship ring was in an auction and it’s possible they could come forward and have proof the ring was lost or stolen. In that case, they would get the championship ring back, and the winner or the auction, or the company auctioning the item would be out thousands of dollars.

Currently, there’s another non player, 1996 Patriots championship ring for sale on eBay. The championship ring dealer, who is selling it, is asking $9,999.99. Good luck to the championship ring dealer trying to get that kind of money, when the same style ring just sold for $3,550.00.

Please remember I buy championship rings. If you would like to discuss selling your championship ring in privacy, please contact me.

More Proof Championship Rings are Facing Price Volatility

May 20, 2016

We have seen some amazing high and low auction results for championship rings lately, here’s another head scratcher from this week:

Dallas Cowboys Superbowl XVII Ring

The photo above, shows former player, Clayton Holmes’ Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Ring from 1992.

The diamond laced championship ring sold this week at auction for the price of $23,900.00.

If you collect championship rings and deal with some of the well known ring dealers, than you know how difficult it would be to acquire from them a player Super Bowl ring, with this much bling, from one of the most popular teams in the NFL in this price range.

One thing that makes this Balfour-made Super Bowl ring special, is that the center diamond was cut in the shape of the Cowboys logo – their iconic star. I don’t know of any other championship rings that can make that claim on any other championship ring.

In my blog from earlier in the week when I questioned why some championship rings were selling for less money, Dale, a forum contributor at the championship ring website, suggested that the lower prices had to do with the older rings having less bling than the newer ones. I believe he’s right, yet here’s a player Super Bowl ring, with plenty of bling, going for less than half of what some other blinged out championship rings have been selling for.

This wild price variance for championship rings will have me looking for better values, not blowing large sums of money for the latest, greatest rings.

Please remember, I buy championship rings and will pay a very fair price. If you wish to sell your championship ring in a private transaction, please contact me.

Von Miller Buys Custom MVP Super Bowl Ring

May 19, 2016

The MVP championship ring reportedly cost him $25,000:

Von Miller Super Bowl 50 MVP Ring, Super Bowl Ring**photo description here**

Von Miller made some news on his recent $120,000 jewelry shopping spree at the very exclusive Avianne & Co., located in New York City.

The football superstar of the Denver Broncos, and Super Bowl 50 MVP, purchased a diamond tennis chain and a fancy cross pendant, and something really different….

Included in the $120,000 buying binge was a custom designed $25,000 blinged out championship ring. Von Miller’s one of a kind custom Super Bowl MVP ring, was designed with 15 carats of sparkling diamonds!

The championship style ring, shown above, is made of solid 14 karat gold and contains dozens and dozens of high quality diamonds.

The top of the championship ring displays the letters MBG, which reportedly stands for Money Bag Gang. A moniker for Von’s group of close friends.

One side of the championship ring has an image of the state of Texas, Von’s home state, while the other side pays tribute to his MVP honor.

Von is hoping to sign a huge $100 million contract this off-season, so perhaps after that, he can purchase more custom designed championship rings.

Speaking of buying championship rings, please remember, I buy them! If you would like to do a private deal and sell your championship ring, please contact me.

Historic Super Bowl Ring Sells For Very Little Money

May 18, 2016

The puzzling auction prices for championship rings continue; here’s the latest head scratcher:

Kansas City Chiefs AFL Championship ring

Heritage sold a Super Bowl I ring this week at auction for $5,736.00 (including the buyers premium). Technically, this ring is known as an AFL Championship ring, however, the Chiefs were awarded this ring, and not a Super Bowl ring because they lost to the Packers in Super Bowl I.

This was not a player’s championship ring, it was presented to Bob Hurt, a sports writer. Make no mistake, this AFL Championship ring is the exact same size and style that the players received.

Heritage, the auction site that sold the championship ring, mentioned in their auction listing, that there was a chance that the ring was remade, due to some clues inside the interior of the ring.

This championship ring also came with a personalized wood presentation box, the only one I have ever seen for this championship ring. If you wish to see the rare personalized presentation box, and many other ones too, please visit my Super Bowl Ring Gallery link, located at the main page of this website.

I’m surprised this championship ring only sold for $5,736.00. It suggests the market is definitely softening for championship rings, yet we continue to see record prices when star players or new championship rings come to the market place for the first time.

There were some other head scratching results for championship rings at the Heritage auction this week. I’ll be sure to report on them as well.

Meanwhile, please remember I buy championship rings. If you have a championship ring that you would like to sell, and wish to do so in private, please let me know.

Replica Bronco Super Bowl Rings Now Available on the Internet

May 17, 2016

I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but a website is already advertising Bronco Super Bowl 50 rings for sale:

Denver Broncos Super Bowl 50 ring

I have no affiliation with the seller or manufacturer of these bogus championship rings. I have never spoken to them or even seen any of these fake championship rings in person.

However, the design of the rings, in my opinion are not bad at all. Perhaps the person has a future in championship ring design.

The three Lombardi trophies on the top of the Super Bowl ring, to celebrate the three Bronco world championships is a nice touch, very similar to the Giants real Super Bowl XLII ring. The designer could have done a better job scaling the trophies as the bases are way too long.

Another short-coming of the top of the ring is that the seven replica diamonds on bottom are way to small. In fact, the real ring will probably have substantially more diamonds and bling.

The sides of the rings were also designed well.

When the real Super Bowl ring debuts in a little less than a month, the replica Super Bowl ring above will be even less desirable, as it will probably not be a close match to the real thing.

Meanwhile, please remember, I buy championship rings, all the time. If you would like to discuss a private deal, and selling your championship ring, please contact me.
