This Super Bowl Ring Essay Gets Under My Skin

December 24, 2015

Here’s Why The Author Got It All Wrong:

Five Worst Quarterbacks With Super Bowl Rings

As a super bowl ring collector, championship ring enthusiast, and huge football fan, it was inevitable that I would see this article, released over the internet this week.

I wish author John Buhler would have taken a different approach to his essay and made it more positive.

Perhaps the story would have been more interesting to me had it been “Five Quarterbacks Who Overcame Long Odds and Helped Their Team Secure a Super Bowl Ring”.

Searching the Internet, I see Buhler writes a lot about sports. I wonder if he ever played sports and I wonder if he ever played quarterback in organized football?

Did he stop and think what these five quarterbacks went through? Did he bother to imagine what it’s like to be chased around by top athletes on the defense who are trying to sack you and does he have any idea what a collision feels like? Would he have the guts to go through this week after week?

Did he wonder how much pain these quarterbacks are in on Monday morning after a tough game where the quarterback was hit numerous times?

Or how hard it is to go from High School to a College program and then be one of the few to make it to the NFL?

Has Buhler ever sat in meetings, hour after hour and prepared to play an opponent? Or spent the many necessary hours training? Has Buhler ever experienced a sports injury and one resulting from the devastating collisions only found in the NFL?

I’ve met a lot of athletes and it’s amazing how proud they are of their championship rings. Every player in the NFL wants a Super Bowl ring, and they work tirelessly to achieve this goal. It does not matter if they are the star of the team, or on the practice squad, or in Buhler’s mind a “worst quarterback” – they overcame long odds and worked tirelessly to get where they are.

Buhler missed the bus on this story, and that’s a shame.

Oh, and by the way, How many Super Bowl rings does Buhler have?

Please remember, I buy championship rings, so if you have a championship ring that you want to sell, let’s talk!

Bruce Bochy Buys World Series Trophy for Giants’ Tim Flannery

December 23, 2015

We just showed Flannery’s Three World Series rings on Saturday, now this story hits the Internet:

World Series Trophy

The Christmas gift arrived a few days early for former major leaguer and Giant coach Tim Flannery, who helped the San Francisco Giants win three World Series in five years before retiring after the 2014 season.

Flannery announced on Twitter Monday, that he received from his former colleague Bruce Bochy: A real Commissioner’s World Series Trophy, representing the Giants’ World Series victories in 2010, 2012 and ’14.

World Series Trophy

The trophy, redesigned in 1999 by Tiffany, is made of silver and is worth approximately $15,000. It’s two feet tall, weighs around 30 pounds, and contains 30 gold-plated flags – one for each Major League team – grouped around a silver baseball that contains 24-karat gold stitches.

We all know everyone gets a championship ring when your team wins the World Series, and players sometimes get a smaller version of this trophy – about 12″ tall. Very few get the 24″ size version, although sometimes the baseball team allows players to purchase one.

Tim will no doubt, put this amazing trophy on display with his gorgeous World Series Rings:

Super Bowl Ring Humor Returns

December 22, 2015

While not championship ring specific, this funny cartoon reminds us that the NFL playoffs are heading our way soon.

Superbowl ring humor

This funny cartoon, made shortly before Super Bowl 48, reminds us about our desire (or fear if you were attending the game) of seeing a brutal cold and snowy Super Bowl event.

Turned out it never happened, the day the game was played was a lot warmer than average, yet the New York area was hit with a snow storm the day after the game.

Ah what could have been.

Now that this Super Bowl is almost two years behind us, and Super Bowl rings were designed and awarded from this game and from Super Bowl 49, it’s time to start thinking about the playoffs and the upcoming Super Bowl game in San Francisco this year.

Many teams are still playing to get into the playoffs and with just two more games to go, we’ll know shortly who’s in and who’s out.

As most years go, it’s hard to pick who will be playing in the Super Bowl. Many teams are facing injuries, or not playing as well as they were earlier in the season. Some like the Chiefs are surging, others like the Bengals look more vulnerable than ever.

Carolina keeps rolling along, so perhaps this is finally the year when they get a winning Super Bowl ring.

Enjoy the cartoon, and the last two weeks of the season as the playoff race heats up!

Packers Return Reggie McKenzie’s Stolen 1996 Super Bowl Ring

December 21, 2015

The current Oakland Raiders GM, Reggie McKenzie, no longer works in Green Bay, but the Packers still gave him a special holiday gift- his original Championship Ring:

When the Raiders played the Packers on Sunday, McKenzie’s former employer reunited him with the stolen Super Bowl XXXI ring.

McKenzie was a scout for the team in 1996 when he earned the championship ring. Back in 2009, the Super Bowl ring was stolen from his car.

The championship ring was later recovered during a drug bust.

For reasons not know to me, the Packers were contacted, not McKenzie, and his former team went to work and got it back to its rightful owner.

Congratulations to the Packers and to Reggie McKenzie for getting his 1996 Super Bowl ring returned!

San Francisco Giants World Series Rings

While serving as the San Francisco Giants third base coach, he was awarded the three championship rings shown above: The World Series rings are from 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Flannery retired after the 2014 season, saying “I’m going to send myself home safely.”.

Now able to concentrate more on his music, Flannery’s latest album, appropriately titled Three Ring Circus, is his best according to music critics.

His all-star band (pun attended) is called the Lunatic Fringe, and features Douglas Pettibone, Dennis Caplinger, and Dean Smith.

Please remember, I buy world series rings too, so if you have a championship ring to sell, let’s talk!
