Bill Belichick renames his boat ‘VI Rings’ because he now has six Super Bowl rings

July 25, 2015

I’m tiring of writing about the Patriots – I really hope this is the last Super Bowl ring for Belichick, Kraft, and Brady.

However, how they carry about their business (on and off the field) is fascinating.   Here’s the latest story…

For the past eleven years, Patriots coach Bill Belichick has been sailing the waters in the Massachusetts area on his boat, which had been named “V Rings. (see below)”

The Patriots coach had named his vessel “V Rings” because, before the 2014 football season, he had collected five Super Bowl rings: Three were as a head coach of the Patriots and two Super Bowl rings as an assistant coach with the New York Giants.

Belichick had also assembled three AFC championship rings with the Patriots when they lost three Super Bowl games.

All of Belichick’s championship rings, prior to the new 2014 Super Bowl ring are shown below:

Now that the Patriots 28-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks in February is “in the books”, it was inevitable that coach Belichick would change the boat’s name.   He finally did that recently.

This is probably at least the fourth time that Belichick has renamed his boat, but I’m sure he doesn’t mind the cost or hassle involved.   According to his long-time girlfriend, Linda Holliday, coach Belichick has owned the boat since 2000, and back then he had only two Super Bowl rings.

Belichick who prides himself on tremendous football preparation and spends an enormous amount of time with the Patriots, doesn’t have very much free time.   But when he does find time, you can bet that he will be relaxing on his boat.

I really want to buy the Patriots 2014 Super Bowl ring. If you have any championship rings to sell, please let me know.

The Super Bowl Ring Was in the Mail

July 24, 2015

Have you heard the expression, “It’s in the mail”?   Well this Super Bowl ring apparently was, with a nice note from owner Robert Kraft:

2014 Patriots Super Bowl ring

It’s not every day you receive a precious package in the mail that contains a whopping 205 diamonds, but that’s what former Patriots corner Brandon Browner found on Thursday.

Browner, signed with the Saints as a free agent during the off-season, and posted the photograph above on the internet.

The 2014 Super Bowl ring was awarded to him when the Patriots earned their fourth championship ring in 14 years.   The image also showed a handwritten and typed letter to Browner from Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

The letter had a nice touch, a handwritten note saying “I’m truly sorry you left us,” Kraft wrote, “you were one of my favorites in the locker room!”

No explanation was provided as to why Browner received the Super Bowl ring weeks after the rest of the players received their rings.

According to the Patriots, and information I was able to obtain on my own, the 2014 Super Bowl XLIX rings were made by Jostens and are physically, the largest Super Bowl rings ever made.   The championship ring contains 205 diamonds.   Compared to 2003 and 2004, when the Patriots won back-to-back Super Bowls, those Super Bowl rings had 104 and 124 diamonds, respectively.

The 2014 championship ring was made in 10K white gold while the first three Patriots Super Bowl rings were made in 14K white solid gold.   A very cool feature of the newest Patriots Super Bowl ring is that it contains four Lombardi Trophies, each containing a large football shaped diamond and the rings also have the three-word mantra that the 2014 Patriots embraced: “Do your job.”

Please remember, I buy Super Bowl rings. If you would like to sell your ring, please contact me.

Championship Ring Enthusiasts to the Rescue!

July 23, 2015

Yesterday, I wrote a blog about a huge L.A. Dodgers World Series ring. I asked readers of this blog to help enlighten me and others about this championship ring and where it was located.

Dodger World Series ring

Collecting championship rings and learning as much as possible about them does not happen in a vacuum.   So many people have helped teach me about championship rings and I try to return the favor by writing this blog and by answering questions sent my way.

Yesterday I needed help and boy did I receive assistance!!

The first person to reach out was Brian Dwyer, Consignment Director, for Robert Edward Auctions.

If you are not familiar wit Robert Edward auctions, you should be!   The company is well known in the hobby place for their amazing sports memorabilia auctions, and just as important, their integrity.   Their website is:

Brian wrote “The picture you posted is of one of the large, five-foot replicas of Dodger World Series rings on display at Dodger Stadium. If you poke around the internet with that info, you can likely find more pictures or information about the display. I don’t have specifics beyond knowing they’re on display at the stadium.”.

Bgar3, through the championship ring site also added “google: giant World Series rings Dodger stadium, apparently they have six, there are images for some, the 1988 World Series ring is Lasorda’s. “

Thanks guys, I appreciate the added information.   As both contributors promised, there are many other pictures on the web featuring these giant World Series rings.

The picture above shows that 1988 World Series ring with “Lasorda” on the shank.

Next, I want to give thanks to Rick C.   Rick was kind enough to write the following to me: “First off, I’m a huge fan of your championship ring blog. The stories and the photos are amazing. I wanted to comment on the July 11 post about the world junior championship ring: The maple leaf logo with the 100 in it is a centennial logo for Hockey Canada. They wore this logo on their jerseys throughout 2014.”

Thanks Rick for the kind words and encouragement. I had no idea that the team wore the logo during the 2014 season!

Rick also provided the logo above.

And just to refresh the readers of this championship ring blog, here’s the photo and link to the original blog that Rick mentioned:

Thanks again for everyone’s contributions.   I’d also like to thank the readers of this championship ring blog for making this blog such a success!

Please remember, I buy championship rings so if you have one to sell, please let me know.

Where is this huge 1959 World Series Ring?

July 22, 2015

Searching for new content for my Championship Ring blog, I stumbled upon this picture of a huge World Series ring.   What in the world is this?

Dodger World Series Ring

After googling “huge World series rings” I came up with nothing…

Any readers of this championship ring blog know anything about the location or story behind this Dodgers gigantic World Series ring?

The huge replica, is a 1959 or 1963 World Series ring.   The Dodgers, having recently moved from Brooklyn, won the World Series both of those seasons.

While the replica World Series ring looks to be very accurate, both the 1959 and 1963 World Series rings were made in white gold, not yellow gold.

Both World Series rings featured the same top and the same shank with a baseball and two baseball bats as shown in the picture above.

One of my favorite features of these two World Series rings is that the recipient’s own autograph (in their handwriting) is presented on the sweet spot of the baseball.

Ironically, the other shank proudly proclaims the year, so had the photograph been taken from a different angle, we would know what year this World Series ring is.

And it would be very cool to know what player is represented in the sweet spot of the baseball on this giant championship ring.

If anyone knows where this ring is (or rings, if the location plays tribute to additional Championship Rings), and the story behind it, I will follow up this blog with additional information and give the contributor full credit.

Meanwhile, please remember I buy normal size championship rings so please let me know if you have any to sell.

Here Come The 2000 New York Yankees World Series Rings

July 21, 2015

The New York Yankees gave away replica 2000 Yankee World Series Rings this week, before the start of their home game:

2000 Yankee World Series Ring

While no one will confuse this replica 2000 World Series ring with the real ones, it’s a nice giveaway and looks no worse than those knockoffs for sale on ebay from China.

If you want one, these replica World Series rings should be popping up on ebay this week and the longer you wait to get one, the lower you will typically pay.

Here’s a story you may not know: Real 2000 Yankee World Series rings are extremely rare and go for a hefty premium compared to Yankee World Series rings from 1996 and 1998.

The reason for this is that when the Yankees handed out 1996 World Series rings, they presented many employees with a similar ring to what the players received. The employee rings lacked a large centered diamond, but otherwise, the World Series rings were identical.

Bench coach, Don Zimmer, who was credited with helping manager Joe Torre with baseball moves throughout the season and playoffs, was incensed when he received his World Series ring and learned it was lacking the center diamond.   He never forgave George Steinbrenner for this.

In the late 90s eBay was just getting going, a few of 1996 World Series rings were sold by Yankee employees on the auction web site.

George Steinbrenner was quite angry about this and by the time 1999 and later 2000 World Series rings were given out, the Yankees had cut down the number of employees who received championship rings.

While the 1999 World Series rings were given to some staff, the 2000 ring was given to even less staff and is a very hard to get ring.

Please remember, I buy World Series rings, so if you would like to discuss selling your championship ring, please let me know.
