7 Super Bowl Rings, 3 Great QB’s, the World’s Best Golfer, and Augusta National

March 31, 2015

Recently, Rory McIlry, the #1 ranked golfer, arrived to the gym early.   Within minutes he was shocked to see Tom Brady, Peyton, and Eli Manning walk-in for a workout too.

Super Bowl Rings

Rory, was at Augusta National this month.   He arrived at the private golf facility’s gym to get in a quiet workout, before a round of golf.

Augusta National, home of the prestigious Masters   golf tournament, is considered by many to be the most beautiful and prestigious golf course in the world.

Unless you are a club member, or know a member, or are invited to play in the Masters   tournament, it is impossible to get on the course.

Rory, a past winner of the tournament is allowed to play the course so he can practice and prepare for the upcoming yearly tournament.

Tom Brady and the Manning brothers were guests of Augusta National members. Rory had no idea that the great quarterbacks were playing the golf course that day. And the three legendary qb’s, with seven super bowl rings and 11 total super bowl game appearances, had no idea they would meet the best golfer in the world.

Pictured above are six of the seven Super Bowl rings the three quarterbacks have won. Tom Brady has his fourth Super Bowl ring “or order” and he and the team should be receiving them sometime around June.

Please remember, I buy super bowl rings, so please let me know if you wish to sell a super bowl ring or championship ring.

The Championship Rings From Super Bowl XV

March 30, 2015

Continuing my blog on the two championship rings from every Super Bowl, here’s the next beautiful pair; an inside look at the two championship rings from Super Bowl XV.

Super Bowl XV Rings - Oakland Raiders

As I’ve written so many times, please accept my apologies that the above photo contains my website address. If I didn’t place this in the picture, other web sites would lift my photos and those eBay sellers who make the incredibly cheap replicas in China that don’t look as realistic as true authentic championship rings, will use the photos to claim the pictures are of their replica championship rings!

Almost every picture I use on this blog series of the two championship rings are from my very own personal championship ring collection. As you know, these rings are extremely rare in the hobby place and are rarely (or perhaps never) photographed in pairs from the specific Super Bowls. So once again, please excuse my effort to keep these photos from being misused. When I do use a picture found on the internet, I promise, I won’t place my website over the picture.

The ring on the left is the Oakland Raiders second winning Super Bowl Ring from their 1980 season. No team has made the effort the Raiders have to keep their championship ring theme the same over the decades since the Super Bowl started. I’ve detailed in past blogs how the Raiders championship rings remain the same style – you can search for these blogs using the tools on the right to see additional stories and examples of Raider championship rings.

Designed and manufactured by Lenox (who eventually was sold to Jostens) in 14K solid white gold, the ring contains two large diamonds to celebrate their two super bowl victories. The ring also contains quite a few smaller diamonds, and weighs approximately 46 grams.

Like so many other winning Super Bowl rings, the Raiders Super Bowl XV ring is extremely rare and in high demand by Raider fans and highly coveted by championship ring collectors. Only one player ring has been sold publicly, HOF punter Ray Guy’s ring – it sold for $55,152.00. A few others have been sold privately.

In a tradition that continues to this day, the team that loses the Super Bowl is recognized as a champion of their respective conference. The Eagles NFC championship ring shown above lacked the dazzle that was becoming so prevalent with championship rings, however, no one could argue the ring is a beautiful and classic design.

There have been quite a few “salesman sample” rings that have hit the market. I am not sure if they are all real. A couple of real rings have sold publicly; a front office ring in the $5,000 range, and a player’s ring for $6,600.00.

The Eagles 1980 NFC ring was made by Jostens, in 10K yellow gold and weighs 44 grams.

As always, don’t forget, I buy super bowl rings and buy championship rings as well, so definitely let me know if you have a championship ring you want to sell.

Ohio State Buckeyes get 1st of 3 Championship Rings

March 28, 2015

Two more are on the way, including a more stunning Championship Ring that the players designed.

Ohio State National Championship Rings

The Ohio State Buckeyes football players and staff received their first National Championship rings this week.

This championship ring was from the College Football Playoff.   This is just the first of three rings that Ohio State players and staff will be awarded. The other two haven’t arrived yet.

The second Championship ring the Buckeyes get is a Big Ten championship ring for their conference title victory over Wisconsin.

And the third ring is the other   national title rings. Those are the ones designed by the Ohio State players. While the National Championship ring shown above is nice, and compared to other recent National Championship rings, a little understated, wait and see what a bunch of 20-something-year-old guys designed to celebrate their national title.

The ring shown above does not appear to feature any drastic departures from past designs, the biggest difference is the new CFP trophy, the top of which is displayed prominently on the ring’s top. NCAA rules mandate that these rings do not contain solid gold or real diamonds.

In my opinion, the side of the championship ring showing the player’s name, is very plain and more thought should have been put into the design of this shank (side of the ring).

Congratulations for the Ohio State Buckeyes on their National Championship and to their three beautiful championship rings!

Hey, don’t forget, I buy championship rings. If you want to sell a championship ring, please get in contact with me by cell phone, text, or email.

It’s Been a long time Since The Mets Were Awarded Championship Rings

March 27, 2015

The championship ring drought came to an end this week;   at least at the minor league level:

New York Mets World Series Championship Ring

The Binghamton Mets received their 2014 Eastern League Championship rings during a ceremony at the Mets Spring Training complex in Port St. Lucie, FL on Tuesday morning.

I hope the major league team, executives and ownership were on hand since the big league Mets have done so poorly since their last World Series appearance 15 seasons ago.

It was the Binghamton Mets first Eastern League title in more than 20 years.

The Binghamton Mets are a Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets major-league club. They play in NYSEG Stadium, located in Binghamton New York. Binghamton is located in central New York, about 3 hours Northwest of New York City.

Prior to moving to Binghamton in 1992, the franchise was located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania during the 1987 to 1991 seasons. They were known as the Williamsport Bills. The team was an affiliate of the Cleveland Indians in 1987 and 1988, and was affiliated with the Seattle Mariners during the 1989 and 1990 seasons before being purchased by the New York Mets in 1991.

Minor league championship rings are very cool to collect. For championship ring collectors on a budget, they offer stunning rings with big-league logos.

Typically, depending upon whether they are made of solid gold and real diamonds, prices tend to fall in the $500 – $2,000 price range.

Please remember, I buy championship rings. If you are looking to sell your championship ring, give me a shout!

Worst World Series Ring Giveaway Idea Ever! – Your thoughts?

March 26, 2015

I was planning a story on this and asking readers if they thought this promotion was a bad idea.

World Series Ring

Now I see either the Houston Astros, or their minor league affiliate, who concocted this crazy giveaway, cancelled the promotion.

The two obvious reasons I hated this idea was: 1) The jinx factor, and 2) this is the ugliest sports jersey I have ever seen!

The story reported in the media was that the Fresno Grizzlies seemed to have a lot of confidence in their MLB affiliate, the Houston Astros, to win the 2017 World Series. (Really????)

They supposedly felt so strongly about it, they created an entire promotional campaign around it, including 2017 World Series championship rings to hand out to fans.

This was part of a “Back to the Future” – themed promotion, which included hideous DeLorean-inspired jerseys, complete with the famous flux capacitor on the jersey.

Any thoughts on the championship ring, or canceling the promotion or the jersey? Would you wear that jersey?

If you wish to be part of this discussion, please visit the   championship ring forum (see banner with the link below) and sound off!

Remember, I buy championship rings and World Series Rings. If you want to sell your World Series ring or championship ring, please text, email or call me.
