The rings, designed and manufactured by Jostens, are stunning and huge. Made of 14-carat white gold, the rings contain round-cut diamonds, tapered rubies and marquise diamonds. The rings include five diamond trophies, which represents the franchise’s five championships and a tomahawk logo featuring yellow diamonds, baguette rubies and pear-shaped emeralds.

All totaled, the ring weighs 93.0 grams and includes 260 diamonds and gemstones totaling approximately 14.68 carats.

Dodger Pitcher Brian Wilson Confronts Giants CEO About His World Series Ring

September 28, 2013

After the Giants beat the Dodgers, 3-2, on Thursday, former Giants closer Brian Wilson strode across the diamond over to Giants CEO Larry Baer and the two engaged in a heated discussion.

Brian Wilson and Giants CEO Baer

Wilson was reportedly upset about not receiving the 2012 World Series ring he won with the Giants’ championship team last year. During the series he pitched in two games but was sidelined with an elbow injury). The pitcher took his post-game opportunity to confront Baer about not receiving his ring. Giants officials say they have tried several times to give Wilson his ring and did not receive a response to their calls.

“It’s disappointing. It’s unfortunate. It’s bizarre, really,” Giants communications VP Staci Slaughter said. “This organization really has tried to do the right thing and I don’t know where this is coming from. It wasn’t for a lack of effort on our part. Larry [Baer], [VP] Bobby [Evans], [Giants manager Bruce] Bochy — everybody has made an effort to reach out to him.”

But the story doesn’t quite end there: Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle covered the incident and passed on some more information through his Twitter account. In one tweet, Schulman notes that the Giants tried on Tuesday of this week to arrange a meeting with Wilson to present the ring, to which Wilson reportedly responded “just put it in my locker.”

Fan Steve Chandler, who was standing behind Baer, later sent Schulman a photo of the conversation and said that Wilson had also told Baer to stop using his images in Giants highlight videos, but Baer says it was all about the ring. The CEO wouldn’t elaborate on the matter any further, though, telling one reporter that the incident was simply “just a conversation between me and him.”

On Friday, Wilson stated “I got my ring,..It’s of no one’s concern. It was handled.”

Kansas City Royal – Willie Wilson Gets World Series Ring

September 25, 2013

Willie Wilson once again has a 1985 World Series ring, thanks to some good friends and fans.

Kansas City Royals 1985 World Series Championship Ring

Wilson, who spent 15 seasons with the Royals, was forced to sell his World Series ring at a bankruptcy auction in 2001. On Tuesday, Wilson wiped away tears after he was surprised with an exact duplicate of the ring while he was promoting his autobiography at the Negro Leagues Museum in Kansas City.

“Let me say this,” Wilson said. “Of all the things I lost, this is the only thing I really treasured. I got my kids, I got all the things I really needed. I’m going to wear this again with pride and honor and this time I’m not going to let it go.”

The Royals gave Wilson’s business partner, Helen Mohr, permission to have an exact duplicate of the ring made and she led efforts to raise almost $9,000 to have the work done by Balfour Jewelry in Austin, Texas. Friends, including Pearl Jam star Eddie Vedder, contributed to the cause, The Kansas City Star reported.

“I’ve known him since 2004, and he’s always mentioned getting a ring,” said Mohr, who runs the website WillieWilsonBaseball.org. “But you know, life gets in the way.”

Wilson, who played 15 of his 19 major league seasons with the Royals, was a two-time All-Star known for his speed. He finished his career with 612 stolen bases and 13 inside-the-park home runs, and he led the American League in triples five times. He also won the league’s batting title in 1982.

Wilson and three other Royals were arrested on drug charges in 1983, and he spent 81 days in prison before returning to the team. He also played for the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics before retiring in 1994. Wilson began using cocaine again in the late 1990s, but later managed to quit. He details his struggles and triumphs in his book, “Inside the Park, Running the Base Path of Life,”

“I had thought about doing it a few years ago, but I wasn’t ready,” Wilson said. “I’m happy with it because it’s the truth. I’m not trying to fool anyone.”

Rare, 88-year-old basketball high school championship ring stolen from library

September 12, 2013

An 88-year-old high school basketball championship ring that belonged to the team’s captain was stolen from a display case in the Uniontown Public Library.

1925 High School Championship ring stolen

The ring belonged to the late Joseph Hackney, who was a member of the 1925 Uniontown Area High School Red Raiders state championship basketball team, according to his great-nephew, Joseph Hackney of Hopwood.

“The ring’s case wasn’t shattered, and the lock wasn’t broken, but the ring that belonged to Joseph Hackney is gone.” said Lynne Tharan, Director of the Library.

“The ring was a plain gold band with a little bit of an enlarged area in the center,” said Tharan.

The ring was engraved and given to the 1925 Uniontown High School basketball team members after the team won the state championship. Hackney’s family gave it to the Uniontown Sports Hall of Fame on loan.

“When it was discovered that the ring was missing, the doors were reversed, and the lock was hanging crooked,” said Tharan.

Tharan said the doors were still locked, which confused her, so she scrolled through the building’s surveillance video.

“We have reviewed the videotape back to the beginning of September, and we really haven’t seen anything that makes us suspicious of anyone,” said Tharan.

“The woman who loaned it to us is, of course, very upset. It’s part of her family’s memories, her history, and someone has stolen it,” said Tharan.

Bill Parcells to get Hall of Fame ring at halftime of Broncos-Giants game

September 11, 2013

Sunday’s Giants-Broncos showdown at MetLife Stadium will be another installment of the “Manning Bowl” and is the Giants’ first home game of the season. There’s something else special about it too.

Bill Parcells New York Giants coach, Hall of Fame Ring

Bill Parcells will be in attendance, and receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring during a special halftime ceremony. The five other living Giants who are also enshrined in Canton – Frank Gifford, Sam Huff, Harry Carson, Lawrence Taylor and Y.A. Tittle – will also be there for the ceremony.

“I feel fortunate to be among the very few,” Parcells told WFAN, when asked about being in the Hall of Fame.

Parcells coached the Giants from 1983-1990 and led the team to two Super Bowl victories. Later he coached the Jets, Patriots and Cowboys, and he’s the only coach in NFL history to lead four different teams into the playoffs. He also served as a front office executive for the Jets and Dolphins.
